Hi my name is Geoff Moore.

I started this business on my own back in Jan 2008 with one vehicle and it was very quickly clear I was going to need help. Scott joined me in Feb 2008 after being in a management position within an engineering company and at that time the company he was working for was suffering like all other engineering industries.

I am the old boy in this business and my past has always been within the transport industry. I started my life after leaving school working for a Ford dealer and then progressed onto a sales rep in the parts industry.

I then got my PSV licence and worked in the coach sector for approx 12 years and then got a HGV1 licence and worked for the Asda group for approx 11 years until I was diagnosed with diabetes and was forced to give up my PSV and HGV licences but continued to work in the transport office with 140 drivers under my control.

I decided then to set about starting a light transport and courier service and that’s when I started this business. Having worked from home with Scott alongside me we needed more help and we asked Dameon if he would like to join us which he did back in Nov 2008. Now with Scott my son in law and Dameon my son with us we set about looking for an office to work from and we moved into giving us a base to work from. Dameon was also from the transport industry being also a HGV1 driver and found it comforting to have some younger members within the business.

Working from an office was fine for a while we then wanted to go to another stage in our expansion plans and decided to find an industrial unit to operate from where we could take in storage. We now feel we are in good position to give our existing customers and new ones a service we pride ourselves in. We all have our own parts of the business to look after other than getting the deliveries done for our customers.

Scott looks after I.T and vehicle maintenance. Dameon looks after route planning and quoting jobs. I look after the admin side of the business and of course make the coffee. We all work together as a family team and we feel our business growth has been a nice progression since starting the business and intend to continue even in the present climate.

Hello, my name is Dameon Moore. (The son of Geoff and brother in-law of Scott) I am 36 years old.

I have been in the transport industry since the age of 21 when I passed my LGV class1. I have worked for companies such as Lynx, Asda, Aldi, Argos, Tesco, Christian Salversans and Wincanton on the B&Q contract.

I got married to Sam in August 2008; I have a daughter, a step daughter and a Springer Spaniel dog. As a family we enjoy going bowling and the cinema but most of all we enjoy getting away for the weekend in our touring caravan, where I can enjoy doing some fishing and having a barbeque.

I joined G&S Light Transport in November 2008; 9 months after G&S started trading. Geoff and Scott had been really busy and had done really well to build up the work they had got. It was a pleasure to be asked to join in the family business although at the time I was in full time employment. Yes it was a pleasure to be asked, but do you give up a full time job is what was playing on my mind? After going through the good points and bad points the conclusion was just go for it and work hard and make G&S a successful family business. What a really good choice I made. The people you get to meet and the places you get to see are a real bonus in my working day.

We at G&S like to think that we give 100% all the time NOT most of the time. This is how we will continue for old and new customers while doing work for them.

One of my roles at G&S is general route planning and pricing jobs for customers but the most important thing is to make sure we have plenty of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and washing up liquid. We don’t want Scott and Geoff to have any excuses NOT to wash up and make the drinks!

I look forward to speaking to you soon!

Hello I’m Scott Wormleighton the S in G & S Light Transport.

I helped start the business with Geoff in February 2008. Being threatened with redundancy after 18 years in the Engineering trade during late 2007, I needed a new career and after a brief chat with Geoff my father in – law one night he asked me if I would be interested in joining him. After a few days thinking about it and knowing Geoff’s previous experience in transport as well as his dedication and commitment to a project I decided to take him up on the offer and now 2 years down the road I have no reason to look back.

My aim is to push and expand G&S further for many years to come. With the help of Dameon my brother in-law we are a young and forward thinking business keeping us to a family run business with a professional but personal service. My roles within the company besides driving are to look after I.T in our office and manage the majority of vehicle maintenance and repairs...and of course the washing up.
